SUCOMA SACCO was founded on the cooperative principle as established in 1890 by the Rochdale society in England whose intention was the promotion of the spirit of oneness among cooperators. To date, the SACCO continue to subscribe to these principles;
Voluntary and open membership. The SACCO will continue to sensitize non members and educate existing members on the cooperative values such that they are able to make informed decisions whether to join the SACCO or if they are members already, to withdraw at will.
Democratic member control. General membership through the AGM democratically elects directors to govern the SACCO operations on their behalf. These directors are elected through a vote based on one member one vote despite the number of shares one holds.
Member economic participation. Members contribute capital which is used in the SACCOs operations, have access to loans and get a share of the surplus realized. They are both owners and customers of the cooperative.
Autonomy and independence. The SACCO is an autonomous institution that is run by the members without any undue external influence.
Member Education and training. The SACCO trains its members continuously in financial management to help them make informed economic decisions.
Cooperation among cooperatives. This is promoted through affiliation to MUSCCO and chapter whereby regularly, SACCOs holdĀ joint programs that promote the cooperation of cooperatives
Concern for community. As a corporate citizen, the SACCO undertakes corporate social responsibilities as a way of giving back to the community. These include sponsorships to need students for their school fees and related needs, construction of and donation of social amenities like pit latrines.
